Ekeing On Empty
PostSubject: Ekeing On   Ekeing On EmptySun Jan 18, 2015 2:59 pm

Three days have passed since the slaughter. Three days since the last time Psyre saw another human. Three days since he caused his whole world to be destroyed. He can't be trusted. Other people can't be trusted. There is only Nature. Only the Wild is true.

Psyre hasn't slept since that night. When he tries, he tosses and turns. If he begins to fall asleep, he sees his tribe turning to stone around him. His mother's blackened eyes. The forest in flames. The serene calm that only comes with far too much death. And all because of him.

He knows the woods. No, he doesn't only know them, he's a part of them. He hunts with ease, knows where all the rivers are, and has no trouble surviving. But he doubts he can ever truly live again. He can eat and drink. He can breathe. But he can't live. Not after what he's done. He doesn't deserve to live.

A few more days go by, and Psyre is beginning to be able to sleep. An hour or two at a time, but sleep nonetheless. As he begins to gather his wits again, he becomes set on revenge. Zanthro may not have been his real name, nor the East his true home, but it was all Psyre had. He would find the murderer. He would seek revenge. And thus, with fire in his eyes and heart, Psyre set off toward the border.

PostSubject: Re: Ekeing On   Ekeing On EmptySun Jan 18, 2015 4:38 pm

Strolling out of the building after declaring himself king of the North was all he could do keep himself calm.

He always tried to make himself easy going, and he was. That wasn't the problem. He was just getting bored in there, he would go back if anything were to occur, but for now he had to get away.

He always found peace in the woods, watching the snow fall gently around him, settling on the trees in a manner that was purely... comforting. It helped that usually no one was in the woods, most thinking it was too dangerous.

That was usually, but here was a young boy, who couldn't be that far off in age from his own daughter. He watched the boy from a distance for a bit, considerate of the scarred expression on his face. He's kind of at a loss as to what to do.

He didn't know this boy, for all he knew he could like seclusion... But something in him told him the boy needed someone, whether he wanted it or not. So, Cedric walked over to the boy, making sure his presence was known.

"Why hello there!" Cedric greets as he gets closer, "Why do you look so glum, chum? Feel free to tell me or not why, but I'm not going anywhere."

Ekeing On Empty
PostSubject: Re: Ekeing On   Ekeing On EmptyMon Jan 19, 2015 12:24 pm

After everything at The Lodge had finished up, Cedric had entrusted Rowena’s well being into Archea’s hands, while he went gallivanting off to claim the throne of The North. While Archea thought that was so very typical of Cedric to do, he was more than happy to look after Rowena during the time being.

The two traveled a bit more through The Northern Village, though stayed away from the Great Hall, as per request of Cedric, who wanted his “crowning” to be a solo endeavor. Eventually, they made their way to the River of Runes. Archea spent a lot of time wondering what lay beyond it’s opposite banks, and mostly left Rowena to her own devices (he knew she could handle herself).

After a few days of staying at the River, Archea was ready to move along. He was sure Cedric had finished by now and thought wouldn’t it be nice to go support the elfish male in his new endeavors. Cedric was probably somewhere in the North, and Archea would have to wander about in order to locate him, but he didn’t mind, as wandering was what he did best.

With Rowena occasionally ambling off, but always finding her way back, Archea set out to look for his friend. The Forest of Giants stood before them, first. Its expanse was huge, and Archea had very little likelihood of actually finding Cedric amongst its trunks, but it was a place to start.

Shortly into his search, Archea found himself walking along the perimeter of the Forest Walls. He was rather in his head the entire time and didn’t notice another person out in the woods – until he almost slipped on some ice and had to start paying attention. Archea glanced at the other person: almost as tall as him, blond hair, elfish features – it was Cedric!

At this point, Archea’s perspective could only see his friend. He brushed off the thought that it kind of looked like Cedric was talking to a tree.

“Oi. Elfy,” Archea called out, beginning to make his way over to Cedric. “So. How did the King stuff work out? You really King Just Cedric, now?” He laughed teasingly and bent into a fake bow, Your Highness.

As he finally reached Cedric’s side, Archea realized there was another person present, a little ways away from his elf-like friend. (It might’ve been why Cedric had been talking to a tree, because at that previous angle, Archea hadn’t been able to see the other.) It was a teen boy, maybe around the same age as Rowena. He had longish, black hair that fell wildly around his face, and intense green eyes. He was extremely thin – unhealthily so – and his entire being screamed devastation, pain, and sadness. Overall, the boy didn’t seem to be doing very well.

“Oh. Hello.” Archea offered a small smile, what he hoped would come off as reassuring – that neither he nor Cedric would hurt the boy. “What’s your name?”

Keep it simple, thought Archea, start with names, build from there.

Ekeing On Empty
PostSubject: Re: Ekeing On   Ekeing On EmptyMon Jan 19, 2015 3:58 pm

Cedric had told Rowena he was going to be king, at least that's what it sounded like. "Darling, your papa will be right back. As soon as he becomes king, for now stay with Archaea for a bit. Not because I don't think you can take care of yourself, but because I want to keep tabs on my precious, darling jewel of a daughter."

And with that, he was gone. Leaving Rowena in what she was sure were capable hands. Together she and Archaea traveled to the north, careful not to enter the place where Cedric was no doubt sassily declaring himself king. She spent a lot of time with Archaea and the two grew quite close. He was happy to let Rowena wander off by herself, something Rowena greatly appreciated. Cedric always tries really hard to be a good father figure, despite his age, but he never stopped Rowena from cultivating her independence.

One day Archaea came to Rowena and purposed a journey to find Cedric, they both agreed he was probably already king. The journey to the Forest of the Giants was long, but not unpleasant. Often Rowena would wander off on different paths in search of new and interesting leaves. She made a habit of collecting them. And Cedric, being the kind of parent who spoiled children rotten, indulged her and had all of them gilded. Hundreds of golden leaves now decorated her bedroom back home.

She was on one of the strange paths through the wood when she stumbled upon an interesting scene. A young looking boy, oh gods it had been weeks since she'd seen someone who was close in age to her, who looked slightly startled at the sight of other human beings. Cedric, with a kind smirk he used only on rare occasions. And Archaea who seemed to have just stumbled on the two herself.

Rowena wondered who this strange boy was, why he was here. This week had been far to full of unexpected and hard to explain events. There had been a change that started with the strange letter and Rowena doubted her life would ever return to normal. Not that what she had been living before could really have been called normal.

She decided to stay in the shadow of the trees. Cedric probably already knew she was there, they had spent enough time together to know when the other was around. Archaea was very perceptive as well, and if she had pegged him right, so was that boy. Rowena had no idea what would happen next, she had no way to control the situation. This feeling, especially the more she thought about it, terrified her.

Ekeing On Empty
PostSubject: Re: Ekeing On   Ekeing On EmptyTue Jan 20, 2015 7:47 pm

Psyre was walking swiftly through the forest when he heard something. He wasn't sure what, not yet, it was just... well, not the forest. He knows the forest. He is with the forest. He has been in the same spot for almost half hour, listening, trying to figure out what it was. Then, he caught a flash of shimmering blonde curls. A person. His heart started racing. Am I about to be betrayed again? Will I make this one die too? Can I go near him? He seems strong. Maybe I can't make him die. Psyre hesitantly stepped away from the trees in which he was almost impossible to spot.

"Why do you look so glum, chum? Feel free to tell me or not why, but I'm not going anywhere." Oh no. Psyre felt panic welling up. His muscles tensed, a perched bird ready to fly away at a moment's notice. And yet, something stayed him. This man didn't feel like he wanted anything. Nor did he feel unnatural. Psyre could feel the man emanating a comfort and ease that Psyre had never felt before. It felt... like the forest. Like the Wild. This man was. Other people around him might be worn by the grind of daily life, but not him. Not this man. This man and the world work on separate planes. The world goes by and he does as he wills. Psyre could feel himself begin to relax into that forceful tranquility.

How did the King stuff work out? You really King Just Cedric, now? Psyre's face actually broke into a grin. The other man asked Psyre for his name and Psyre couldn't help but remember the last time someone had asked his name before giving one. Psyre was suddenly taught as a bowstring again. "Why do you wan-" Psyre's voice sounded gruff from lack of use. He cleared his throat and tried again. "Why do you care what my name is? Tell me yours first. And make her stop trying to hide, it's a disgrace to the forest." Psyre was harsh as he pointed to the tiny figure in the shadows. He thought of all he had learned and taught. He bowed his head in shame. "Forgive me. I did not intend to be so rude. You have done nothing to deserve such terrible behaviour from me. That said, I'm afraid I must be off. I wish you best of luck, King Just Cedric. Random Dude Who Says Funny Things. Weird Girl in the Shadows. May the runes aid your journeys."

Psyre started to walk away into the woods, but then he paused. He turned back, ever so slightly, and said "Is it really okay if I tell you what's wrong?" His voice was laden with hope and he choked back a sob. Tears were streaming down his face again. He needed to get this off his chest, and as much as he loved the forest, the forest couldn't talk to him. It couldn't listen either. It could only be. This Cedric person seemed like the forest. But he could help. Psyre looked up at him with watering eyes and a quivering body, then sat on the ground and felt his body once more wracked by sobs.

Ekeing On Empty
PostSubject: Re: Ekeing On   Ekeing On EmptyTue Jan 20, 2015 9:30 pm

"Oi, Elfy"

Archea's voice was unmistakable, as was the nickname. Cedric looked over at him when he came to his side, not wanted to turn away from the boy. Not even for an instant, something told him not to.

"Oi, Pixie." Cedric countered. Archea smirked in response. Cedric's very own Sweetheart (He meant that in the most sarcastic, loving way possible).

"You really King Just Cedric now?" Cedric's smile widened at that, which turned into a full on grin when Archea bowed and addressed him as royalty. He saw the boy smile and glanced back at him. He wanted that smile to stay, he needed it to stay. Why was that? He hadn't felt this was since Rowena was a young girl, she was always independent so Cedric hadn't needed to worry since their first encounter.

So why did he feel this way about the boy?

"You bet, was there any real doubt I wouldn't come back victorious?"

Archea shook his head in a teasing manner, and turned his attention to Boy Wonder.

As Archea talked the the boy, Cedric knew he did something terribly wrong. The smile fell from the boys face, and Cedric would be lying if he said his own fell as well when the boy's voice seemed to fail him in his grief and fear.

"Why do you wan-" Oh Gods, what has this boy been through? He was in so much pain, Cedric himself could feel it just by looking the boy in his eyes. Cedric his this though, being an assassin it was easy to hide his emotions, but the feeling was there. Whoever did this to him, and yes Cedric knew it was a person who caused this pain just based on his behavior, they were going to pay.

And Cedric is known for thinking Death is too light of a punishment for those who cross him, or those he cares for.

Cedric quickly glanced over by the trees where his daughter sat, watching. The boy, Cedric would call him Apple Eyes due to the fact his eyes were the purest green he had ever seen (besides Rowena, but she was more of an emerald green), would not react well to that. If he hadn't noticed already, he would soon.

"Why do you care what my name is? Tell me yours first. And make her stop trying to hide, it's a disgrace to the forest."

There it was. The boy caught himself, and apologized. He didn't need to, Cedric did in fact need, however, the boy to stop apologizing. Something about it seemed off, like he was guilty of the purest evil just for being on guard.

Cedric watched as the boy turned around, and as he was about running to him again the boys words  hit him.

"Is it really okay if I tell you what's wrong?"

Cedric didn't realize it, but he was already rushing to the boy. He reached him seconds after he fell to the floor, and Cedric immediately fell beside him, and wrapped him in his arms.

"Of course you can," Cedric said in a quiet whisper."My name is Cedric, Apple Eyes. No need to tell me your name, for now tell me what you need to. I'm not going anywhere. Ever." Cedric couldn't remember being this serious in his life, except the few times Rowena really needed him.

Cedric lifted the boys head to make sure he could see Cedric wasn't lying.

"I will never do anything to harm your trust, nothing." Cedric smiled a bit, sat back, and waited for the boy to get everything off his chest. Briefly he thought about how Rowena was taking his behavior, probably shocked. Cedric thought for a second, then decided it would be worth the possible ridicule of him actually being serious. He could deal.

Ekeing On Empty
PostSubject: Re: Ekeing On   Ekeing On EmptyTue Jan 20, 2015 10:29 pm

Pixie. That was new. Archea liked it in an odd sort of way. Elfy and Pixie. Cedric and Archea. Just Cedric … King Just Cedric … Ceddie … he ran it over in his head. Cedric had a lot more nicknames so far, to say the least.

The new King of the North quickly updated Archea on the prior events (“You bet, was there any real doubt I wouldn’t come back victorious?”) and Archea had to admit it was a silly question – of course Cedric had gotten his throne.

The boy almost seemed at ease while he and Cedric had been conversing. A small smile played on his lips.

But then Archea had to go and ruin it all.

Whatever he said (not whatever, because he knew exactly what he said) triggered something in the boy. His walls were up again, his smile vanished, his demeanor cold and hard as a rock. “Why do you care what my name is?”

Archea berated himself silently. What he automatically assumed as completely normal, he couldn’t be so privileged to stick that on others. This boy was instantly traumatized by that question, and though Archea didn’t know why, he knew he needed to be more careful in the future, no matter the situation.

Just after the boy’s harsh outburst, his manner changed again, and he apologized. But he also bade a goodbye. Archea wanted to call out to the boy, ask him to stay or something– but he was also a bit scared he’d say the wrong thing … again. He bit his lip, contemplating, but ended up not needing to make a decision, because the boy stopped anyways, and turned back to face them.

“Is it really okay if I tell you what’s wrong?” The moment, no, even before the words were out of the boy’s mouth, Cedric was in motion. Running to the boy, catching him as he fell down, comforting him, talking to him, just like a good father would do for any of their children.

Archea was frozen. Did he run too? But it already seemed the boy was a bit wary of him. He honestly didn’t know how to respond in this particular situation. Go comfort the boy as Cedric was doing? But would that only drive the boy further away, because it might make Archea seem like a fake? He wasn’t. He really did care and wanted to help. But how? Cedric had taken the role as fatherly figure, and rightly so, but what did that leave Archea with? He didn’t want to do anything more that alienated the two of them.

He also had to admit, he wasn’t the best with youth. He’d never had to really deal with them before – he was the youngest in the family, and the oldest was just his twin sister. Rowena was fine because she was very much independent. Right now, Archea knew that what this boy needed was not independence, but comfort and support.

He walked over, very slowly, and knelt near the boy, however still leaving some personal space in between. Cedric had introduced himself to the boy and was now reassuring the boy he would do nothing to harm him or break his trust. Cedric was so different from his normal, happy-go-lucky, lighthearted self. But honestly, it didn’t come as much of a surprise to Archea. He knew that beneath the spirited, elfish features of his friend lay a genuine heart made for these sorts of things.

There was silence after Cedric spoke. If Rowena had come down from the trees after being called out by the boy, she still hadn’t spoken a word.

“I’m truly sorry for any pain I have caused unknowingly,” he spoke in a barely audible voice, very unlike his usual loud and cheery vocalization. Archea sighed the tiniest of sighs, his breath weaving through the crisp air, and bowed his head. He would now let the silence permeate, for it wasn’t their right to talk any further, and the boy could begin whenever he wished.

He would also not give his name just yet. He felt it was not his place to do so, and for what he did, Archea did not deserve to let his name be known. Only the boy deserved anything, and that was for his story to be heard and understood, and his soul to be mended.

Ekeing On Empty
PostSubject: Re: Ekeing On   Ekeing On EmptyWed Jan 21, 2015 5:50 pm

Rowena smiled when she heard Cedric's sassy reply to Archea's question. Of course he had been made king, she had never doubted he would be. Cedric, despite his faults, had a way with people. He was so good with them, it had surprised Rowena to find out that he was an assassin. Then again, when Cedric had a job, he left all emotions out of it. She tried not to talk to him while he was working.

At first it looked as though the boy would give answer to Cedric's question, there was even a small smile playing across his lips. Then, Archea asked his name. The boys attitude changed quickly. He barked out a harsh replying. Demanding Archea's name and what he wanted as well as calling out Rowena. The change was so sudden, mr. mood swing must have been through something serious. Pretty recently as well, Rowena remembered the emotional instability that followed after the death of her parents.

Rowena's theory was confirmed as the angry flower child doubled back from his angry exit and crumpled to the ground. She bet that the sound of his sobs could be heard for at least a mile. Cedric ran to him and enveloped him in a hug that Rowena hadn't seen or felt since they first met. Cedric may appreciate the art of humor, especially the dry kind, but he could get deadly serious when the situation called for it.

Medium, dark, and currently trying to create a river of tears, was going to need a lot of support and help. Rowena knew that Cedric, and probably Archea, would be willing to give it to him. They were both right there already. Rowena wasn't sure if she would fit into boy wonder's, that sounded like a Cedric kind of name, plans for the future. But she knew that if Cedric was involved, it would all work out somehow. For now she emerged from the trees and paused a few feet away from the group, trying to catch Cedric's eye to see whether she should stay or leave.

Ekeing On Empty
PostSubject: Re: Ekeing On   Ekeing On EmptyWed Jan 21, 2015 6:17 pm

Psyre felt himself enveloped by a warm, strong, comforting embrace before he hit the ground. The comfort somehow only made him cry more, like it was only now okay to really let it all out. The man was promising things, things Psyre could only dream he would keep. And yet, his voice sounded almost familiar. He found himself believing this Elf King without a reason. Maybe that was why he seemed so much like the forest, his cheekbones and hair made him very elven. And his status as a king became clear by the wai in which he carried himself. But his value as a person was what really got to Psyre. This man hadn't tried to make Psyre tell him anything, he had just made himself available. And he had run to Psyre immediately. Psyre cried out of regret, loss, longing, fear, self-loathing, and a little bit of admiration. Tears continued streaming down his face and groans of agony issuing from his lips. He cried so hard for so long that he almost didn't hear the whispered “I’m truly sorry for any pain I have caused unknowingly.”

Psyre almost froze again. He felt himself beginning to tense up, but then relaxed into Cheekbones' arms. He felt at home. For some time, he cried wordlessly, simply letting his emotions run their course. He didn't look up or pay attention to anything other than the hug and how free he felt in it.

After what felt like an hour but couldn't have been more than five minutes. Psyre's sobs quieted to a dull roar. He took a deep, shaking breath and looked up at Cheekbones with red eyes and a tiny grin on his face. "You sure you're ready for this? It's a long story. And you might never want to talk to me again." Psyre asked the question, already knowing the answer. Then, he turned to the other man. The tall, skinny one with the blonde hair. The tall, skinny one with the blonde hair that wasn't Cheekbones. Since when were there so many tall, skinny men? Psyre looked at him. Not his eyes, the bottom of his chin, but him nonetheless. "I forgive you. You didn't know. It's not your fault. And Cheekbones here seems to like you, so you can't be all bad." Now, Psyre was grinning in earnest. He looked back at the girl and beckoned for her to join them. There's no need for you to be way over there. I'm sorry I was so rude. Just. Ummm... Well, for future reference, if you're trying to hide in the forest, try to be less... human. Humans don't blend. Well. Unless they're stone. His face darkened again.

"Okay, I'm just going to start telling you what happened. If you get bored or cold or something, you don't have to stay. I know I'm less important than whatever else might be going on." He said that, but he didn't want them to leave. Especially not Cheekbones. He needed them. He took a deep breath, sighed, and then began his long backstory.

(OOC: Ha! See what I did there? I'm so clever. Anyway, if you haven't read that, you might want to, as it has all the information that you're gonna need. But it's not actually important, so whatever.)

Ekeing On Empty
PostSubject: Re: Ekeing On   Ekeing On EmptyWed Jan 21, 2015 6:58 pm

He let the boy sob, would let him cry until his avalanche of sobs stopped.

Cedric looked up at Archea's apology, and saw his friend in a distressed state. oh Gods why is everyone sad. I hate sad.

He'd have to do something about that a bit later on.

For now, Cedric winked at Cakey (Archea told him he was a good baker), and tried to express through his eyes that he couldn't have known, and Cedric just as easily could have made the same mistake. Then he went back to the boy, who had tensed in his arms as Archea spoke. Cedric hugged the boy harder, until he relaxed again. Eventually his tears slowed down a notch, and he was able to speak. Cedric listened to the boy, ready for his story but bothered by what Apple had ended his words with.

"And you might never want to talk to me again." Cedric spoke up immediately.

"No matter what, I'll want to talk to you. Whatever happened is nothing compared to what a few men do," Cedric paused, thinking about his own sins. His own line of work. "If you did something, it will not define who you are. I'm certain anything you do, or did, was an accident," Cedric himself certainly didn't do harm by accident. "There are worse men, no matter what you think." Himself, but the boy didn't need to know that just yet. It wasn't like Cedric hid what he did or what he was, he was actually proud of it, but it wasn't the best conversation starter.

Archea's face lit up when the boy forgave him. Oh thank gods.

Cedric smirked as Wood Sprite told Rowena she had to be less human. He'd have to train her more in the art of blending in. Maybe next week, he'd ask when she was free. For now, he put his focus on the boy, again his ending statement bothered him. Stone? Maybe he doesn't like rocks? Make sure not to buy him rocks.

"If you get bored or cold or something, you don't have to stay. I know I'm less important than whatever else might be going on."

Cedric was having none of that.

"I couldn't imagine being bored by your story," Cedric smiled at him. "You're far more important than anything I have going on, and that includes being the king. Please, tell your story but do not force yourself. Take your time, we won't leave you."

He wasn't going to let this boy think lesser of himself, no need for that. He could see the boy was pure of soul, something Cedric desperately wanted to protect. It was a quality he tended to have a soft spot for, his daughter and Hunky the Explorer prime examples. It was time to hear the story, and comfort his new.... charge? Child seemed a little informal right now, but Cedric would be sure to provide for the boy later, he was king after all. Also somewhat of an over-bearing Father in Rowena's words (she meant them lovingly,) and that was something he couldn't change.

Ekeing On Empty
PostSubject: Re: Ekeing On   Ekeing On EmptyWed Jan 21, 2015 9:49 pm

In between the sobs and silence, Archea looked up to catch Cedric winking at him. At first, he was slightly baffled, because why was Cedric winking at him at a time like this. But then he realized, this was Cedric, and it was just his personal way of reassurance.

Archea quirked the corner of his lips, halfheartedly though. The boy had tensed up at his apology. That didn’t exactly bode well. Had he said something wrong again? If only there were a tree right in front of him so he could bang his head up against the bark repeatedly.

The boy’s shaking and cracked voice brought Archea back to the situation at hand. “You sure you’re ready for this? It’s a long story. And you might never want to talk to me again.”

Cedric, of course, was ready with an answer. Archea could sense a bit of conflict in his friend’s voice, regarding Cedric’s very own occupation and what occurred within it – but he was still every bit sincere and genuine to the boy. And everything he said, Archea agreed with, though it might not have seemed that way to boy, yet.

Then the boy turned to Archea (and he had to admit he was almost knocked over by the intensity of the boy’s grief-laden but rich, green eyes) and spoke directly to him. “I forgive you. You didn’t know. It’s not your fault.” Archea’s downcast heart brightened a little. And then, “And Cheekbones here seems to like you, so you can’t be all bad.” A chime of laughter actually burst forth from Archea’s lips. However, he stopped it short by covering his mouth with a hand, because he didn’t think laughter was appropriate just yet.

“Thank you,” Archea whispered in earnest, but he didn’t know if the boy had heard because he had already begun to speak to Rowena.

The boy’s demeanor had shifted once again. He had a grin on his face and he beckoned to Rowena without any spite. Only when he mentioned something about stones did the boy’s face fall again, but only so briefly. Archea felt there would be more about that later. Time would tell.

“You don’t have to stay. I know I’m less important than whatever else might be going on.” Archea disagreed heartily, as did Cedric, who automatically voiced his dissent. “Please, tell your story but do not force yourself. Take your time, we won’t leave you.”

Archea took a brief moment to admire Cedric’s on-point fatherliness. He undisputedly cared and showed that care with hundred percent of his ability. (Deep down, Archea secretly wished he could be like that one day.)

“Everyone deserves to tell their story and let it be heard in fairness. We are here to hear yours with open minds and open hearts,” Archea kept his voice soft and even, hoping to prove to the boy he really was an ally. The last part was a bit cheesy, Archea thought, but he meant it true.

Archea observed Cedric with the boy. If already Cedric, himself, and Rowena were a trio, then very soon, Archea was sure of it, the boy would join their ranks as family.

Ekeing On Empty
PostSubject: Re: Ekeing On   Ekeing On EmptyThu Jan 22, 2015 8:09 am

Rowena could tell that mowgli felt comforted by Cedrics embrace. She knew the feeling, some people could hug you and all of a sudden nothing seems as bad. Both she and Archea flinched a little when he seemed to react badly to Archea's question, but he relaxed back into Cedrics arms and so they relaxed as well. Rowena gave a small smile when she heard his nickname for Cedric, who seemed to be finding all kinds of people to share nicknaming jokes with this week.

The smile dropped when muscles mcgee started talking again. Rowena wanted to hear what he had to say, this boy was so hurt she was sure he could be shipped in a box labeled fragile. Rowena almost cried out when the boy suggested they might never want to talk to him again, but Cedric knew what to say just the way he always had. The look in his eyes when he alluded to his work as an assassin almost brought Rowena to tears. Despite trying to be tough, she often cried a lot. Usually when other people were hurt.

Cedric assured mophead that he would stay with him, that he was the most important thing right now. Rowena supposed she should feel jealous, but he needed the affection and attention way more than she did and Rowena was happy to provide him with care and attention of her own. She moved closer to the group and settled on the ground near Archea. Hopefully proving to the boy, if just a little bit, that he was important and worth their time.

As they all settled in to hear the boys long backstory, and Archea offered some comforting words of his own, Rowena had a strange feeling settle over her. She had gone from at least a dozen family memebers to none, and now she felt as though one at a time she was gaining a family back. There was no doubt in her mind that Archea would be a part of it, and very probably so would the mowgli.

Ekeing On Empty
PostSubject: Re: Ekeing On   Ekeing On EmptyThu Jan 22, 2015 9:13 am

Psyre hadn't even been listening to what the people were saying, but Cheekbone's voice was low and comforting. Just like everything else about him. Psyre was already vulnerable, but it felt good. He hadn't even started to tell them all the horrible things he had done, and it already felt like a great weight had been lifted off his chest. His deep breaths weren't broken now, he could speak without his voice cracking, and he felt almost at ease. He still wasn't totally sure if he was ready to begin his story.

"I couldn't imagine being bored by your story. You're far more important than anything I have going on, and that includes being the king. Please, tell your story but do not force yourself. Take your time, we won't leave you."

“Everyone deserves to tell their story and let it be heard in fairness. We are here to hear yours with open minds and open hearts.”

The statements might have seemed overdone in a different situation, but to Psyre, right now, they were comforting beyond measure. The assurance that they would stay and listen was exactly what he had needed to hear. And the use of "we" was reminiscent of his people and their way of life. Psyre stopped for a second. He raised his hand to his face and felt his cheeks and mouth. Did I just think about the tribe without instantly feeling absolutely terrible? Yep, that's still a smile. Who are these people and how are they doing this? Psyre looked around at them again. The other man and the girl were respectfully keeping their distance, but their presence was comforting as well. He felt overwhelmed with affection. The fact that people would deliberately choose their distance from him in order to be sure they weren't going to upset him filled him with joy. These people thought about others. Not their tribe, but maybe their family? They seemed like a family. And they thought about him as well. The "we" mindset was familiar and boded well. Psyre turned to the man that wasn't Cheekbones and smiled up at him, actually looking into his eyes this time.

"Okay guys, I'm not sure you know what you're getting into..." And Psyre began his story. He spoke quickly with only very short pauses for breath, trying to make sure there wasn't enough time for anyone to interject until after he had said all he had to say. He told them about how he had gone behind the backs of the people of his tribe, how he had trusted an outsider, how this outsider had been his mentor, pupil, and friend. He told them how he had lived before, explained how the tribe worked. He told them everything there was to tell, his desire to allow Zanthro to join the tribe, his passion for thinking and change, his coming of age ceremony, and how he had planned to make those all come together and result in Zanthro joining the tribe as well. How he had hoped to help what he had thought was a friend. How he had been blind, stupid, dishonest, and a traitor.

And then, with his whole body shaking in grief, anger, and remorse, he told them of the slaughter. The fight. The flames. He told them of the strange light and the explosion of energy, the fires that were quenched and the way it had done nothing to him. The entire tribe, turned to stone or dead. Except him. And it was all his fault. He had been living with it since.

His face had fallen while he spoke, but he looked up at everyone in turn and a smile began to form on his face again. "Before you came, I couldn't sleep without screaming and crying, much less smile. When you came, I wanted to run. But you're different. Or at least, I hope you are." Psyre's eyes looked at them almost pleadingly. "You were here for me, not for you. You... You... You helped me more than I can say. Thank you so much." Psyre was starting to tear up again. He wiped his eyes and then looked at Cheekbones. "Thank you." Then, he gently pushed Cheekbones away a little bit so that he could stand up. He walked over to the other man, offered his hand, and said, "I'm Psyre." Then, he looked at the other two. "Is it okay if we go? I want to get somewhere away from here for a bit. Too many bad memories."

He stopped, walked to the girl, introduced himself to her as well, looked yet again at Cedric, and then said, "Well, King, do I get to see your castle?"

Approving Psyre's exit. However, it would be better (for me to keep track of) if you could put all the words towards just a single skill/spell until you have reached the words required, because spreading them out so much is a little confusing to keep track of when approving.
As of now, yes, you can gain skills/spells/runes from topics like this, but this is still in version 1, so that might or might not change as the game gets tweaked.
I think you're saying that you do have the words to get all those, but perhaps just phrase it a bit differently, because the first time reading it over, I thought you were splitting it up between all of those.

Ekeing On Empty
PostSubject: Re: Ekeing On   Ekeing On EmptyThu Jan 22, 2015 6:16 pm

Cedric listened patiently to Apple's story, ignoring his emotions and keeping his face calm.

The man he spoke of, he'd need to get a description of him in order to track him down properly. It wouldn't take long, he knew, and then he'd let the boy have his revenge.

Rowena and Archea both had similar facial reactions (it was almost comical how alike they looked, which was odd), which Cedric had to agree with. Cedric could feel the pain leaving the boy's body, at least enough for him to start healing.

Cedric did not interrupt the entire time, gently keeping hold of the boy, allowing room in case he wanted to leave or push Cedric away.

Cedric focused on the boys words, and his face. He'd be lying if he said he wasn't always suspicious of a possible lie. Not because Smooth Leather would be trying to lie about his situation, but to maybe hide something. Cedric was pretty good at knowing when people were lying, he had to be, but this boy was no liar.

God, he's so genuine. No surprise, considering he was raised in a tribe.

Cedric had heard of this tribe before, having watched them once. Only once, having been hired to do an assassination nearby and needed to relax after the job. He never made any note of it, however, knowing he wouldn't be welcomed in such a community.

He was far to dangerous for most, it seemed.

Turned to stone, Cedric couldn't believe his ears! And this boy, this pure soul was saved, but at what cost? The man who did this, well. He'd make life hell for him if he found him before the boy did. Not in any harmful way, more like stealing his money and his belongings. It would be a real treat to do so, this man having taken so much from such a young child.

And people think I'M bad, at least I have standards. For the most part.

Cedric noticed the story had finished, and Caveboy was.... Smiling? Well that's good? Right?

"Before you came, I couldn't sleep without screaming and crying, much less smile. When you came, I wanted to run. But you're different. Or at least, I hope you are."

Cedric looked into his pleading gaze, and smiled his reassurance. They were different, they wouldn't betray someone who meant something to them. No matter what. Rowena wouldn't betray anyone, and Cedric doubted Archea would either.

"We may be alike to people in some ways, and we may not be the best compared to others," Cedric chuckled a bit. "But we will never hurt one another, and that includes you, Raven Locks."

Nature Boy thanked them for what they had done, and gently pushed Cedric away. He complied easily, getting up himself and offering his hands to both Rowena and Archea to help them up, helping them up in one smooth motion.

Cedric watched him introduce himself to both Archea and Rowena.

Psyre, huh? I can work with it.

"Well, King, do I get to see your castle?"

Cedric tilted his head back and laughed freely, this kid was spunky. He walked over to both him and Rowena, putting his arm around Psyre and taking hold of Rowena's hand. He led them over to Archea, who took Rowena's other hand.

"Of course, my boy!" Cedric winked. "We'll all go together, and you're welcome to stay with us whenever you like. If you would prefer a cabin of sorts in the woods, I have the perfect place but that's your decision." Cedric looked at Rowena, "You're awfully quiet right now, and in the woods? Don't tell me you haven't found a new leaf, my Dearest."

Rowena had in fact found a new leaf, which Cedric decided to get gilded as soon as they were home.

PostSubject: Re: Ekeing On   Ekeing On EmptyFri Jan 23, 2015 6:32 pm

Before the boy began his story, he turned to Archea, their eyes meeting, and smiled at him. Archea beamed back. He knew the boy probably felt much closer to Cedric (though only knowing them all for a short time), but Archea was glad the boy was warming up to him.

Archea’s heart fell again during the boy’s retelling of his past – this time in pure sadness that he had had to experience something like that, be manipulated the way he was. Emotions changed once again as the boy went on to retell “the slaughter,” as he called it. Horror. Anger. Immense grief. Archea was sure his face looked pretty interesting at that point, mirroring the disgust he felt in his gut.

No matter how the boy explained it, Archea refused to see it as the boy’s fault; it was Zanthro who did wrong. Archea wanted to help the boy in whatever way he could. If that meant aiding him in seeking revenge, Archea would do it, even though he wasn’t really the violent type himself. This Zanthro person had put the poor boy through so much pain, and for extremely selfish reasons, and nobody had the right to do that ever.

“You were here for me, not for you. You … You … You helped me more than I can say. Thank you so much.” He had ended his painful story and was now addressing the three of them. As the boy’s green eyes welled with tears, Archea just wanted to hug him, but held himself back because he wasn’t too sure how comfortable the boy was with him just yet. (Also Cedric still held his embrace, so.)

Once the boy quieted, the King offered his own, Cedric-y words in response, promising to never hurt him. Archea found that Cedric always spoke words true to what he was feeling, himself, so he didn’t really need to add anything more.

The boy wiped his tears, thanked Cedric another time, and then stood up. Cedric followed suit and came over to assist Rowena and Archea into an upright position as well. Archea briefly reflected on the fact that he was younger than Cedric, but received his friend’s offered hand anyway.

And then the boy was offering his own hand to Archea. “I’m Psyre.” The boy, or rather Psyre, had finally given his name – had finally felt at ease enough to give the thing that triggered it all in the first place. Archea was happy, truly happy, and he couldn’t help it when a blinding smile plastered itself on his face. He was so elated to have made this progress he forgot to even give his own name.

Psyre moved on to introduce himself to Rowena. And then he asked Cedric a question that Archea found he was very interested in himself. “Well, King, do I get to see your castle?”

He and Cedric laughed simultaneously: the elf’s laugh boisterous and full, Archea’s tinkling and light, but both genuine.

Slinging his arm around Psyre’s shoulders and taking Rowena’s hand in his, Cedric led them over to Archea, who took a hold of Rowena’s other hand with his own. With Cedric talking away, Psyre feeling welcome, Rowena examining her new leaf, and Archea perfectly content, they began on their way.
