Coping with Stress Empty
PostSubject: Coping with Stress   Coping with Stress EmptyTue Jan 20, 2015 7:52 pm

Psyre was calmer. He had slept, spoken, and otherwise done more for his mental health than at any point before that. Now he needed some serious stress relief. He leapt through the trees into the dense thicket, then shouted. He screamed incoherently for some time, then rattled of names of his deceased friends. His family. Then, he stood up and pulled his quarterstaff close. The decorative carvings still smelled faintly of the smoke. He settled into a fighting stance and waited. He knew the forest, and this was no exception. He had come here to fight, and he knew he would. Away from people, here, he could truly become part of the Wild.

Coping with Stress Empty
PostSubject: Re: Coping with Stress   Coping with Stress EmptyTue Jan 20, 2015 8:04 pm

(oh boy! The very first true adventurer! Yaaay! Now I get to found out how op this wolf is. Also, don't worry if that link won't work for you, it's just a reference for me.)

The pair of eyes stared at Psyre from a distance away, hidden among the trees. The lone grey wolf growled to itself, watching this intruder enter the forest. Close to no humans had dared to enter this deep into the forest for centuries, but the wolf knew the sent of humans, and it was one that it had grown to dislike.
It's fur rising, the wolf slowly crouched against the ground, ready to charge and pounce the human.

(don't worry, it shouldn't be too strong. I might just need to tweak it a bit. I won't let it kill you.)

Coping with Stress Empty
PostSubject: Re: Coping with Stress   Coping with Stress EmptyTue Jan 20, 2015 8:12 pm

Psyre could feel the atmosphere change. Suddenly, he felt very vulnerable. It was a feeling he had never experienced before, not in the forest at least. Everything was always a way of life in the forest, hunting was not out of anger, but need for food. But this was different. Something wanted to kill him. It wanted him dead and it did so not because it needed to eat but out of hatred. Psyre slowly spun toward where he thought the wolf was and raised his staff in a horizontal bar in front of him, both ends ready to flick out and deflect attacks with strikes of his own. He also loosened his grip with his left hand ever so slightly, so he could release and let out a Lesser Disruption spell at a moment's notice.

(Haha yeah man! I'm pumped.)

Coping with Stress Empty
PostSubject: Re: Coping with Stress   Coping with Stress EmptyTue Jan 20, 2015 9:28 pm

Watching the human notice its presence, the wolf decided to make its move.
Charging the man, the wolf began to close the distance between itself and its prey. It would take a short moment to get there, but once in range, the wolf would pounce (dealing way too much damage), but it would take a short moment to get there.
It knew the man was dangerous, but it had to fight him. It had to attack the human. The Frozen Ticket was no place for man, and the wolf was determined to show this foolish human just that.
And so, the wolf charged, dashing through the snow, gaining speed until it reached its maximum of 50 feet per second.

Coping with Stress Empty
PostSubject: Re: Coping with Stress   Coping with Stress EmptyTue Jan 20, 2015 10:28 pm

The wolf began charging Psyre. And it was fast. Psyre knew that if it connected, he wouldn't be able to do much to prevent it from tearing him to shreds. He quickly planted one end of the staff behind him and braced it with the other end pointed toward the oncoming wolf, like a spearman bracing against a cavalry charge. He then shifted the grip with his left hand such that the staff lay between his middle and ring fingers, keeping the aim steady but providing little support, and prepared himself to cast his Disruption, but waited until the wolf was either closer or had accelerated to such a speed that it wouldn't be able to dodge safely. His right hand was close to the chill ground and his right shin lay along it, anchoring him firmly so that he could hold against a great oncoming force so long as he angled himself properly. Normally, he would try to outmaneuver his opponent, but against one this fast, he didn't like his odds. So cunning it would be.

Coping with Stress Empty
PostSubject: Re: Coping with Stress   Coping with Stress EmptyWed Jan 21, 2015 7:58 pm

The wolf, quickly closing the distance between itself, saw him lower the staff in a way that would cause the wolf to impale itself if it pounced.
Seeing this, it pounced 10 feet early, bringing itself to an abrupt landing in the snow 10 feet before the man, where it lowered itself again, haunches raised, and growled. Its yellow teeth barely standing out against the white snow that lay all around it.
Slowly, it would begin to pace to the man's right, keeping the 10 foot distance between the two of them, unaware of his ability to cast spells.
It watched him, eyes gazing deep into Psyre's own, trying to discern his next move, and sensing any fear. The wolf was ready to pounce again, but it waited for the prime opportunity.

(so, when you use your spell, mention it ooc; like "(100 action points total - 2 from lesser disruption = 98 ap remaining)" even though those numbers aren't accurate at all. )

Coping with Stress Empty
PostSubject: Re: Coping with Stress   Coping with Stress EmptyWed Jan 21, 2015 9:19 pm

The wolf's charge didn't falter, and for a moment, Psyre thought it would impale itself on his staff. Even as the thought crossed his mind, however, the wolf jumped and landed ten feet in front of him, spraying a light mist of snow into the air. It lowered itself, once again preparing to leap for his throat, and began to circle him. Its beady eyes looked at him with an intelligence that was almost human and a hatred that seemed far beyond human. Psyre looked at how close the wolf was and almost grinned. He shifted a bit, raising his right shin so that his leg was ready to push with all his strength, but also pivoted on the ball of his right foot, disguising it as following the wolf's motion. Then, he loosed his Lesser Disruption spell (OOC: 200 AP - 50 for Lesser Disruption = 150 remaining in topic. Wolf is ten feet away, lesser disruption travels at 200 ft/s, doesn't slow down at all, Dex required to dodge = 600) at the wolf. Even as he felt the energy pulse away from him, he grabbed the staff in a proper grip with his left hand as well, sliding his right hand up to meet it, pushed off from his new stance, and leapt at the wolf (which he hoped to daze with his spell) with a two-handed attack, landing five feet away with a large swing (using the 5 foot reach of the quarterstaff, OOC: two hands, not one, so no penalty to speed on next post. If it connects, deals 49 damage (base 15 + low strength and low dex scaling= 15 + 14 + 20 = 49)).

Coping with Stress Empty
PostSubject: Re: Coping with Stress   Coping with Stress EmptyThu Jan 22, 2015 9:13 am

The wolf watched, seeing the man orient himself differently. It took this as the time to strike.
He had changed his stance, shifted his balance; he was vulnerable.
The wolf, however, did not know of the spell, or see it coming.
Just as it was preparing to leap, it was struck by the disruption through the air. It was as if a ripple through the very fabric of space itself had struck the wolf at extreme speeds. (205hp left)
Upon being struck by this blast, the wolf is knocked backwards mid jump, letting out a yelp.
Just as it landed in the snow, the beast looked up, snarling, to see the man jumping at it with the staff.
This human was dangerous now, it knew. It had hit the wolf without so much as moving. It had to be killed.
As the staff struck down(161 hp L), the wolf let out another snarling yelp. It was hurt now, but it had to fight back.
It snapped out, trying viciously to bite at the man's leg, as it as far too close to pounce. When the wolf's teeth made contact with the man's leg, it would deal 60 damage.
The wolf knew one bite would not be enough to kill him, but maybe he would back up far enough for the wolf to pounce.
(almost forgot about the wolf hide counting as armor. Also, I'm feeling that this bite it a bit over powered.)

Coping with Stress Empty
PostSubject: Re: Coping with Stress   Coping with Stress EmptyThu Jan 22, 2015 9:32 am

Psyre connected with both attacks, and from the yelps, he could tell that he was hurting it. But it was far from dead. With a savagery that he had seen only from a wounded bear, the wolf leapt at his leg and tore into his flesh with its teeth. The folds of his robes did something to protect him ("armor" prevents 5 of 60, taking 55. 145 hp remaining in topic), but the bite was still strong. Psyre recognized the wolf being this close as a rare chance. He released the staff with his left hand, aimed his palm at the wolf's midsection, swung the staff (somewhat clumsily) at the wolf's nose with his right hand, and shortly before it would hit, shot another Lesser Disruption from his left hand. (150 AP - 50 = 100 remaining in topic. Damage is the same as last post, 60 for the spell, 49 for the quarterstaff if they both connect. Also, point of clarification, can one use the quarterstaff as though one were dual wielding? With one hand close to each end, the staff is typically used to deliver short blows with both ends, more akin to dual wielding than using a bat with two hands. Can I hit with both ends of the quarterstaff in the same post?)

Psyre knew that if he hadn't landed the first attack, he might not have had a chance. He also knew the wolf wasn't going to back down. That hatred made it extremely determined. After swinging, Psyre knew he would be open to a counterattack, but there was nothing he could do about it. It was all or nothing. His defence would have to lie in his offense.

Coping with Stress Empty
PostSubject: Re: Coping with Stress   Coping with Stress EmptyThu Jan 22, 2015 10:03 am

(yes, I think you can hit twice with the staff, but I'm not sure if you can do that and cast spells at the same time, as spells usually require the hand)
The wolf felt its teeth connect and dig deep into the skin of the human. It had hurt him, the wolf knew. Good. It had to kill this human.
Releasing it's maw in order to prepare to bite again, the wolf was struck very hard by seemingly two things at once.
First, this rift seemed to hit it again, hurting the wolf very much (106 hp), but then, immediately after, it was struck by the staff again, with the same force (62).
The wolf now, was very hurt, and it could tell the human knew. After taking the double hit, it jumped backwards, and began backing up, until there was a 10 foot distance between them again.
Now, however, the wolf knew he had some strange magic force, and it was determined to not be hit by that force again. Attempting to run in circles around the man, the wolf would look for an opening. It would be hard, but it was ready to pounce, circling at around 30 fps, attempting to not limp, but also not be slow enough to be hit by that force again.

Coping with Stress Empty
PostSubject: Re: Coping with Stress   Coping with Stress EmptyThu Jan 22, 2015 10:22 am

Psyre felt immense pleasure as his hits slammed into the wolf. As it jumped back, the pressure on his leg lessened, and it a searing pain shot through it once again. The wolf retreated a short way and then began running around him before he had fully recovered his balance. He knew the wolf couldn't take much more, but it was also running faster than he could hope to. There was no way that he was going to catch this beast and kill it. Not without it slowing down more. But it also couldn't attack him without exposing itself to his staff and/or spells. (Circumference of the circle the wolf is running is approximately 60 feet, so the wolf is covering pi radians/sec, so Psyre would have to turn a full circle every 2 seconds in order to face the wolf the whole time. I was able to turn at that speed for a while without getting too dizzy, is there a specific limit Psyre should face?) Psyre turned so that he was facing the wolf as it ran around him. The wolf was running fast, and surely couldn't keep it up forever, but Psyre could tell he would get dizzy if the wolf didn't attack or run soon. He lowered his stance a bit so that he'd be ready to run at and attack the wolf, as it would be better to miss and leave himself open than to get dizzy and fall.

Coping with Stress Empty
PostSubject: Re: Coping with Stress   Coping with Stress EmptyThu Jan 22, 2015 4:09 pm

(can't really think of the limit, so, not sure)
The wolf, seeing the man follow its turns as it circled him, decided to close in. It was now or never, and the wolf was not about to just run.
Quickly, it decided to close the circle and try again to pounce upon the man. Closing the distance between them quickly, the wolf make another full circle, closing the distance rapidly, before making to jump after the rotation.
It would, however, watch the human carefully to see if it would have to simply charge him instead of pouncing upon him
If the man did not keep up with this last circle, it would then pounce, biting and clawing at the same time for a total of 80 damage. If the man was able to keep up, then it would simply charge him and try to either bite or claw, but not both.

Coping with Stress Empty
PostSubject: Re: Coping with Stress   Coping with Stress EmptyThu Jan 22, 2015 8:52 pm

As the wolf closed distance in the circle, Psyre realized there was no way he could keep spinning at that speed without losing his balance. Then, knowing full well how risky it was, he took some drastic action. He spun as fast as he could for a fraction of a second, sliding his left hand to meet his right so that he held the staff like a greatclub as he did so. Then, he set his feet and, with the staff fully extended in front of him, spun back toward the wolf, so that his momentum and its would work together to deliver a huge blow. He knew the wolf was fast, but hoped it couldn't change its direction that quickly while going so fast. If it could, he was sure to be mauled, and if it could stop itself in time or duck under, he would be off-balanced and vulnerable.

At the same time, this could end the fight. Or, if it didn't, he could always take one more hit in order to deliver the finishing blow. Anyway, he had already begun, there was no room for second guessing.

Coping with Stress Empty
PostSubject: Re: Coping with Stress   Coping with Stress EmptySat Jan 24, 2015 2:56 pm

The wolf watched the man turn, but then saw its opening. The man seemed to have turned too fast, for some strange reason. The wolf did not question this though, an opening was an opportunity, and it planned on taking it. It kept its direction, and ran directly at the man; but it seemed he had planned this.
As the wolf charged him, it felt a huge blow strike it, and once again, it fell back (18 health), letting out a low yelp.
It struggled to its feet again. The human had to die now. The wolf was on its last stretch of life as it jumped towards the man, and bit once again at his legs (60 damage). It had to kill the human now, or be killed itself, and the wolf was not about to let this human kill it. Not this easily. No, it would take him out with it.
(Sorry for the short post, really tired and had a long day)

Coping with Stress Empty
PostSubject: Re: Coping with Stress   Coping with Stress EmptySat Jan 24, 2015 3:33 pm

Psyre felt his arms shake as the staff slammed into the wolf yet again. This time, the wolf's yelp seemed almost feeble. It was almost dead. But it was also filled with a hatred so intense that it threw itself at him with reckless abandon. Once more, the wolf leaped forward and bit his leg. (145 hp - (60 - 5 from armor) = 90 hp remaining in topic) Psyre cried out in pain. His legs were soaked in blood and his vision pulsed red for a moment. Beginning to feel somewhat faint and disoriented, Psyre felt his staff slipping out of his hands. He let it fall. Then, with a shriek of rage and agony, he slammed his right palm down over the wolf's eyes and his left hand against its side and, without a moment's hesitation, let loose a Lesser Disruption from each hand (100 AP - 100 = 0 remaining in topic). He knew it was wasteful, risky, and probably a terrible idea, but the pain prevented him from thinking straight. He let loose everything he had. This fight would end. And he would win.

As he felt the energy leave his body and cover the negligible distance between himself and the wolf, a wave of exhaustion swept over Psyre. He was going all-out in this fight. And not the kind of all-out he had used when training, in which he worked himself to exhaustion, but the kind of all-out that leaves your nerves frayed and your heart racing. He had no idea if he would survive the next few minutes, having spent almost all his reserves on this last attack. He had come here to relieve stress, and he had found a brutal fight to the death that he wasn't sure he could win. And he felt more alive than he ever had before.

(welp, that wasn't over kill at all.)
The wolf shot away from Psyre due to the force of the spells (-92 hp left), a snapping sound softly heard as it happened.
It was there, 2 feet away from Psyre, that the wolf lay, not moving again, dead.
It made no sound, made no movement, and would lay there until the forces of nature took its toll and the body decayed.
Psyre had won this fight.

Coping with Stress Empty
PostSubject: Re: Coping with Stress   Coping with Stress EmptySun Jan 25, 2015 1:19 am

(Haha nope. Stress makes a man go wild.)
The wolf went flying, knocked back by the raw force of Psyre's last-ditch attempt to kill it. Psyre heard something snap and then saw the limp form of the wolf a couple feet away. Did I do it? Did I win? Yes, he thought. Yes, I did.

After taking a few minutes to steady his breathing, he knelt next to the wolf and began skinning it. He also took out the organs and threw them to be eaten by other animals, but packed up the meat and pelt to take with him. Here was a creature he had killed with no aid. A powerful wolf of the forest. Now, he just had to keep moving up. He packed up everything he was going to take, and then set about applying a tourniquet to his leg. He carefully wrapped it tightly enough that the bandage began to staunch the blood flow. Then, with his newfound confidence and strength, not to mention his physical spoils, he set off to return to the castle, where he would add a stripe of wolf fur to his robe.

As he began the trek back, his fatigue was clear, but he still knew the forest and how to navigate it. He walked with a calm, assured demeanor through the well-known trees. He was exhausted, but also self-sure and somewhat exuberant.
